Public cloud as major investment

Market research firm Gartner just published their latest analysis of global trends and forcasts global spending on IT to go upward to $3.6 trillion. Especially the growing investments in public cloud services make up most of the spending.

„Most IT spending will be on moving various business processes to vendors, some of them cloud software players, into the cloud where they can be sold on a subscription basis, or “as-a-service.” It’s followed closely by “infrastructure-as-a-service,” which is growing almost as fast.“

Telefónica‘s new cloud approach

Spanish mobile provider Telfónica‘s Digital CEO Matthew Key says the „company’s future may lay in a range of offerings that go well beyond mere mobile services — including cloud computing and the Internet of Things“.

AOL‘s flexible infrastructure strategy

AOL is now building data centers „about the size of French door refrigerators“ in order to deploy new services and infrastructure more efficiently. These data-center-in-a-box units are part of a „move toward modular data centers across companies of all types.“
